The Dental Practice, Burwood

Frequently asked questions

The things people ask us most often before their first visit: finding us, parking, paying, health funds, and what we can do if you are nervous about treatment. If your question is about a specific treatment, each treatment page answers its own.

Finding us

Getting to the practice

Where are you?

Shop 2, 8 Burwood Road, Burwood NSW 2134. Driving down Burwood Road towards the city, just before Parramatta Road, our illuminated sign is in the window on the right. Open directions in Google Maps.

Is there parking?

There is street parking on Burwood Road, free for two hours between 9am and 3:30pm.

What languages does the team speak?

Between them our clinicians speak Italian, Arabic, Turkish and Farsi as well as English. Tell reception when you book if you would prefer to be seen by someone who speaks your language, and we will try to arrange it.

How long has the practice been here?

The practice has been on Burwood Road since the 1940s. It is independently owned by Dr Samuel Gidaro, and is a QIP accredited dental practice.

Appointments

Booking and emergencies

Do you see dental emergencies?

Yes. Call us on (02) 9739 1400 and reception will ask a series of questions to work out how urgent it is and arrange an appointment. They can also tell you how to manage things until you get here.

I am nervous about going to the dentist. What are my options?

Tell us before we start. A lot can be done simply by taking more time and explaining each step. Where more is needed, the practice offers happy gas (nitrous oxide), oral sedation, intravenous or twilight sedation, and general anaesthesia. Some of these are provided here at Burwood and some in hospital, depending on the treatment and on your medical history.

Sedation and anaesthesia carry their own risks, which we will go through with you before you agree to anything:

  • Drowsiness, nausea and grogginess afterwards are common.
  • Deeper sedation and general anaesthesia carry risks to breathing and to the heart, which is why they are given by an anaesthetist in a hospital setting.
  • You will be given fasting instructions, and for anything beyond happy gas you will need an adult to take you home. You must not drive afterwards.

Whether any of these suits you depends on your medical history and is assessed individually. Individual experiences vary, and you are welcome to seek a second opinion before deciding. There is more in our treatment risks and suitability information.

Paying

Payment, health funds and superannuation

How can I pay?

Cash, EFTPOS and card, plus payment plans through Total Lifestyle Credit, Afterpay, Zip and humm, and in-house interest free plans for Invisalign and braces. The payment plans page sets out who provides each plan and where their terms and fees are published.

Do you accept my health fund?

We have HICAPS at reception, so your fund can be claimed on the spot and you pay only the gap. What you get back depends on your own level of cover, so check with your fund if you want to know before your appointment.

Can I use my superannuation to pay for treatment?

Some patients apply to release superannuation early on compassionate grounds, and SuperCare assists with the application. Applications are assessed by the Australian Taxation Office, not by this practice, and approval is not guaranteed. SuperCare charges its own fees. We are not financial advisers, so please consider getting independent financial advice first. More about SuperCare.

What will my treatment cost?

It depends on what you need, so we do not publish a single figure. After an examination you get a written treatment plan with the fee set out, and what it does and does not cover, before anything goes ahead.

Treatment

About the practice and our equipment

What technology do you use?

Digital dental X-rays, an in-house CT scanner, digitally guided implant placement, 3D model printing and the iTero intraoral scanner. These support diagnosis and planning; what is appropriate for you is decided at your examination.

Do you provide All On 4 treatment?

The practice is an All On 4 Plus® Premium Provider. Full-arch implant treatment is a surgical procedure and is not suitable for everyone. Our All On 4 page explains what is involved, the material risks and the alternatives.

My question is about a specific treatment. Where do I look?

Each treatment page answers the questions we are asked about that treatment, including what it involves, what the risks are and who it suits. Start from contact us if you cannot find it and we will point you to the right page.

Nothing on this page is dental advice, and it is not a substitute for an examination. Any treatment we recommend depends on your own circumstances, and we will set out the risks, the alternatives and the cost in writing before you decide.

The Dental Practice is a QIP accredited dental practice. Our dentists are registered with the Dental Board of Australia through Ahpra.

Still have a question?
